Spider plants (Chlorophytum comosum) are easy-to-grow, air-purifying houseplants known for their arching green leaves with white stripes. They grow in loose rosettes and produce long stems with baby plantlets—also called “spiderettes”—that dangle like spiders on a web. These plants thrive in bright, indirect light but tolerate lower light too. They’re non-toxic to pets, adaptable, and resilient, making them ideal for beginners. Spider plants help filter indoor air and rarely suffer from pests. In the right conditions, they may even bloom with tiny white flowers. They prefer well-draining soil, moderate watering (allow soil to dry out between waterings), and a pot with drainage. Fertilize occasionally during the growing season to keep them lush and vibrant.
Place the spider plant cutting in water near bright, indirect light. Roots should form within 1–2 weeks. Once roots are an inch long, plant in well-draining potting mix. Water lightly and keep soil slightly moist, not soggy. Avoid direct sun until established. New growth signals it’s settling in.
Each Spiderette is $1.50 and will be shipped priority mail with roots in a damp paper towel.
