Bee balm (Monarda) is a perennial herbaceous plant native to North America, prized for its showy, tubular flowers and aromatic foliage. It attracts pollinators like bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds. Blooming in summer, it thrives in full sun and well-drained soil. Its fragrant leaves, used in teas and herbal remedies, resemble oregano. Resistant to deer and moderately drought-tolerant, bee balm spreads through rhizomes, forming dense clumps. It belongs to the mint family, featuring square stems and opposite leaves.
Cambridge Scarlet is a striking bee balm variety with bold, fiery-red flowers that bloom profusely in mid-to-late summer. Taller than many cultivars, reaching up to four feet, it is mildew-resistant and ideal for vibrant garden borders, attracting pollinators effectively.
