Fraise des Bois (Fragaria vesca), or alpine strawberry, is a compact, perennial berry plant known for its small, intensely flavorful, and fragrant strawberries. Unlike traditional strawberries, it produces runners sparingly, making it an excellent choice for containers, borders, or woodland gardens. It thrives in full sun to partial shade and prefers rich, well-drained soil. The plant blooms and fruits continuously throughout the growing season, attracting pollinators like bees and butterflies.
Upon receiving Fraise des Bois in the mail, unpack and water if dry. Allow the plants to rest in indirect light for a day before transplanting. Plant 8-12 inches apart in nutrient-rich, moist soil. Keep soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Mulch to retain moisture and suppress weeds. Fertilize lightly for continuous fruiting. Protect from extreme frost in colder climates.
