Tansy (Tanacetum vulgare) is a hardy, herbaceous perennial known for its feathery, aromatic foliage and clusters of bright yellow, button-like flowers. It thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, growing up to 3-4 feet tall. Traditionally used for medicinal and insect-repelling purposes, tansy is excellent for companion planting, attracting beneficial insects while deterring pests. It spreads easily, making it useful for naturalizing landscapes, but should be controlled to prevent invasiveness.
Upon arrival, unpack tansy plants immediately and water lightly if dry. Allow them to rest in indirect light for a day before transplanting. Plant in well-drained soil with full sun. Water moderately until established, then reduce watering, as tansy prefers dry conditions. Prune regularly to prevent excessive spreading. Since it can be invasive, consider growing it in containers or controlled garden spaces. Protect from frost if necessary in colder climates.
