French tarragon (Artemisia dracunculus) is a perennial herb prized for its anise-like flavor, commonly used in French cuisine. It grows up to 2 feet tall, producing slender, aromatic green leaves. This herb thrives in full sun and well-drained soil, preferring drier conditions. Unlike Russian tarragon, it does not produce viable seeds and is propagated through cuttings or root divisions. It’s a low-maintenance, drought-tolerant plant ideal for herb gardens or containers.
Upon arrival, unpack and water the plant if dry. Let it adjust in indirect light for a day before moving it outdoors. Plant in well-drained soil with full sun. Water sparingly, as tarragon dislikes soggy roots. Prune regularly to encourage growth. Protect from frost, as it prefers warm temperatures.
